As a church family, we have had a hard year. The past twelve months have brought suffering to so many, in so many ways. We've experienced death, sickness, economic hardship, mental and physical troubles. This past year, we lost two of our beloved brothers to suicide, and that painful experience woke us up to our need as a church to be sensitive, to be caring, and to be there for each other as we are suffering mental anguish. For those who suffer, there must be a willingness to talk about it, which requires courageous vulnerability, and the rest of us must create an atmosphere of encouragement so that anyone who suffers feels the trust and confidence needed to be open about their feelings. This series was designed to help us to understand the problems that come from depression, to be vulnerable when we are hurting, and to care for one another more effectively through our struggles.
