The role of Moses the prophet will come to an end when he dies. Deuteronomy 18 stipulates what will happen after his death. There will be a four-fold separation of
powers among the nation that consists of judges, priests, prophets, and a king. The point is that the source of authority in Israel, in contrast to other nations, is not the king himself, but God’s divine word that directs the actions and behaviors of each of these four offices. All four of the Old Testament offices of prophet, priest, judge, and king find their fulfillment in Jesus—the true prophet, priest, judge, and king. This sermon looks at Jesus the Prophet.
