Dear SJD Church Family,

St. John the Divine has been my place of employment for the better part of two decades now, but more than that, it has truly been a home and a place of belonging for me and my family. The relationships that Karie and I have formed here are the kind that will last a lifetime. My children have been baptized and grown up here, and they have been grounded in the truth of Scripture by a loving and faithful community. I’ve grown in my faith here as well. I’ve learned from some of the best what a disciple of Jesus truly looks like: they learn to listen to God’s voice and obey what he commands.

To that end, Karie and I have been called to a new opportunity to further the Kingdom by joining a new church plant in the north Richmond area. Our last Sunday at SJD will be September 11. It's a little nerve-racking to step out in faith and away from the comfort and stability of SJD, but we are confident in a God that holds the future in the palm of his hand. I’m so grateful to God for placing me here for this season, and even though there is sadness in goodbye (and trust me, I will be a mess on my last Sunday), the bonds that we share in Christ are eternal. I’ll still be right down the road. We love you all, and we’ll always be proud to have been a part of the ministry of The Church of St. John the Divine!

In him,

Zach Meeks, associate director of music

"We are so grateful to Zach for all the important and deeply meaningful ways he has so blessed and enriched this parish's life. We will miss him, Karie, and their children very much. May God continue to bless Zach, and all the Meeks family in this new ministry opportunity. They will leave a large hole here, but we know the Lord will provide many opportunities to remain connected in ministry for the larger Kingdom."

— The Rev. Dr. R. Leigh Spruill, rector

More information about Zach's last Sunday and what's next are forthcoming.
