Loving Lamar Job Fair a Success

The Loving Lamar Initiative, headed by parishioner Larry Lawyer, helped sponsor the Lamar High School in-person job fair on Saturday, April 23.

  • Over 150 students and more than 20 parents participated in a morning and afternoon of educational and prospective employment opportunities.
  • 18 businesses offered internships and summer/full-time employment opportunities
  • 3 additional businesses provided information but could not attend in-person
  • Army recruitment participated
  • Parishioners Larry Lawyer and Anne Ramsey hosted a "Resume and How to Interview" seminar for more than 20 students

Workforce Solutions offered one-on-one "Plans After High School" discussions, transition opportunities for students with disabilities, labor market information, and the "Career Corner Show".

BridgeYear, funded by the Loving Lamar Initiative, provided hands-on stations for students to learn more about how to be an automotive technician, electrician, medical lab technician, phlebotomist, plumber, and web developer.

The Loving Lamar ministry is a collective impact initiative led by SJD (and with support from Bethany Christian Church and St. Luke’s Methodist Church) to intentionally live out Jesus’ commandment to love our neighbor through collaborative efforts that support Lamar High School’s students, teachers and administrators, making connections, leveraging relationships, and providing financial and volunteer support.
