Adult Education

Our Ministry & Team

What is your current study?
Our regular adult education programming returns as we study a great book in the Old Testament, Exodus. Exodus lays a foundational theology in which God reveals his name, his attributes, his redemption, his law, and how he is to be worshiped. It reports the appointment and work of the first covenant mediator (Moses), describes the beginning of the priesthood, defines the role of the prophet, and relates how the ancient covenant relationship between God and his people came under a new administration through the Sinai covenant. It also foreshadows the supreme Mediator of the New Covenant, Jesus Christ. The symbolism found in Exodus becomes reality in the New Covenant. The sprinkled blood of animal sacrifice is now replaced by the blood of Jesus. The symbolic substitution of the Passover lamb is fulfilled in Jesus, the Lamb of God. Jesus’ “exodus” at Jerusalem accomplishes the salvation of the true people of God. The full meaning of the description of Israel in Exodus may now therefore be applied to the churches of the Gentiles, who become fellow citizens of heaven with the Old Testament saints.
How do I join a small group or find the right class for me?
At SJD, we believe that small groups provide christian community, foster spiritual growth, and make connections in worship, discipleship, and mission. This can be a core practice for all believers. If you are interested in joining a small group, please join us. Contact the Rev. Reagan Cocke to find the right small group or class for you.

Our Mission

Adult education at St. John the Divine is ultimately about discipleship. Discipleship is the relationship we stand in with Jesus in order that we might take on his character and more increasingly, routinely, and easily do the things he said and did. But to know these we must study his Word.
