Wednesday Nights at SJD

SJD Wednesday Nights 2012

 

(Wed) Jan 11 - Feb 22 - Have a great dinner in Sumners Hall (5:30 to 6:30 pm) and then attend one of the following:

 

■ THE PARENTING CHILDREN COURSE: PARENTING CHILDREN AGES 0 TO 10-YEARS-OLD

6:30 - 8:15 pm, Jan 18 - Feb 15, in the Scout Room

This course is for any parent, step-parent, grandparent, or guardian of children, whether they consider themselves to have strong parenting skills or are struggling, and whether they are expecting their fi rstchild, are a single parent, or a step-parent. Participants can come alone, as a couple, or with friends. The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone who has responsibility for a child or children up to age ten. We will offer a similar course, The Parenting Teenagers Course for those parenting 11 to 18-year-olds, April 11-May 9, 2012. Each evening will consists of two video presentations by Nicky and Sila Lee, the authors of this course, and will include opportunitiesafter each session to discuss the issues that have been raised. The five-sessions include: Building Strong Foundations, Meeting our Children’s Needs, Setting Boundaries, Teaching Healthy Relationships, and Our Long-Term Aim. This course is hosted by the Rev. ■ THE SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY

Begins Jan 18 (Wed), 6:30 - 7:45 pm with Kemper Crabb in Room 210.

We will study the Themes of God’s Unfolding Revelation in the Bible:

• Image of God in Man & Woman

• Priesthood

• Spiritual Powers

• Law

• Glory

■ PREPARE FOR LIFE BIBLE STUDY

Begins Jan 18 (Wed), 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Church Family Room.

■ FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY

Begins Jan 11 (Wed), 6:30 - 8:00 pm

The economy has impacted all of us for more than two years now. Now is the time for the church to rise up together in faith and lead our nation out of this mess--one family, one church, one community at a time. ■ DIVORCE RECOVERY CLASS

Begins Jan 18 (Wed) - Feb 15, in the Chapel Family Room

This class will focus on many of the difficult issues surrounding divorce. Utilizing the book entitled, The Complete Divorce Recovery Handbook, participants will discuss:

 

•Coping with rollercoaster feelings

•Learning how to forgive

•Dealing with your ex and your children

•Dating after divorce

•Remarrying after divorce

 

The typical stages of the divorce process will be addressed from a biblical perspective. While the divorce experience can be very stressful, this small group can be a source of encouragement an dhealing as you begin to rebuild your life.

 

■ DOES LOVE OR GOD WIN?

Begins Jan 18 (Wed) - Feb 15

Come and discuss the question of whether it is “Love” or God who wins in the end! We will look at both the implications of the ideas put forth by Rob Bell in his most recent book “Love Wins” and those of a book written in response by Mark Galli “God Wins”. The class will meet for 5 weeks, on Wednesday’s, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, January 18 through February 15.

■ MIDWEEK

Begins Jan 11 (Wed), 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Youth Room

Join us for a relaxed atmosphere full of good food and fellowship, games, group discussions, and worship while your parents are downstairs in their program. Come for dinner and fun and get a little bit of the Gospel, too. Bring your friends!
