YoPro Painted Churches of Texas Tour

Saturday, April 01, 2017, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

You may have heard that the only things Central Texans care about are high school football, barbeque, and kolaches. But you’d be forgetting two very important items: God, and beer. Yet even to the refined sensibilities of us folk from the big town, there is something ponder‐some about our brethren out I‐10 West. Indeed, the ecclesiastical underpinings of those between the Brazos and Colorado run far deeper than either river. In fact, theirs is a history, and a church history, which predates even our great state. So come discover our physical and cultural landscape as we explore the Painted Churches of Texas.

A day trip through Central Texas during peak wildflower season to visit the ‘Painted Churches of Texas’ (Primarily churches built by immigrant German and Czech Catholic communities around the turn of the 20th century. Each church on the tour is known for unique interior artwork which through painting and woodwork signifies the cultural identity of the church founders and community).

We'll meet at the church at 8 am - tour begins at 10 am.
