St. John the Divine and Interfaith CarePartners present "Powerful Lessons for Living," a free mini-conference for families, friends, and professional caregivers of persons with dementia. A complimentary continental breakfast will be provided.
Our speakers are Suzy LaForge with Amazing Place and Randy Bartosh of Performance Based Healthcare Solutions (PBHS).
“Chances are you or someone you know have a friend or family member diagnosed with dementia. More than 5 million Americans diagnosed with some form of dementia translates to over 15 million caregivers and loved ones affected by the disease. The emotional, physical and financial toll for caregivers and families can be overwhelming…” So begins the book “Remembering What Matters – Stories from an Amazing Place Reveal the Unexpected Lessons of Dementia,” compiled by Suzy LaForge.
Suzy will share lessons of grace and inspiration that surround us and remind us we are all amazing in our own way.
For the past 17 years, Randy Bartosh has headed the research and development of the country’s most successful company studying approaches in caring for the elderly in their home setting. PBHS has grown to be the leading applied research organization studying best practice and patient outcomes for the elderly. Their work has led to groundbreaking models that have drastically reduced unsafe occurrences and hospitalizations.
In his talk, “Safety in the Home, Especially for the Cognitively Impaired,” Randy will highlight PBHS’s findings related to keeping a loved one safe at home, whether Alzheimer’s or some other form of cognitive impairment is the issue. You can expect to hear lots of practical findings presented through case studies and peppered with helpful advice and good humor.
