The all-important Passover has taken place. God has shown his power over the Egyptian gods and over Pharaoh. Pharaoh is beaten. He commands that the Israelites leave. They take with them the riches of Egypt. The gold, silver and other articles will come in handy when they build the Tent of the Meeting or Tabernacle. The nation of Israel is birthed. Slavery and oppression is transformed to wealth and freedom. This is a picture of our freedom from sin as we come to faith in Jesus Christ.
Now it is time for the Lord God to begin to set down instructions so that the people will not forget. Some theologians believe this chapter occurs after the first day of freedom.
