As Christians, we live in the hope and reality that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ – nothing in life; nothing in death. Still, one of the hardest things we face in this life is the death of a loved one.

The clergy, staff, and pastoral care team at St. John the Divine offer their caring support and expertise to individuals and families through those first difficult days. Our love and care begins with the planning of the funeral to celebrate their life and to offer comfort in the promise of life beyond the door of death by the grace of God.

The Funeral may take place in either the Chapel or the Church and interment may take place before or after the liturgy.

At the time of death, please contact our funeral coordinator Patrick Schneider,  or 713.354.2241 and he and one of our clergy will be in contact with you as soon as possible.

Garden of Resurrection

As Christian people, our lives begin, continue, and end in our church, the body of Christ.  We are born into the church with baptism, and we continue in this relationship after we die.

For communicants of St. John the Divine, interment in the Garden of Resurrection offers the opportunity to continue our association with the church in a physical as well as spiritual dimension.

The Garden of Resurrection offers columbarium space for communicants of St. John the Divine, who have been members in good standing for three years or more.  A gift of $2,500 per space to the Endowment Fund, along with the execution of an appropriate agreement is required to secure your niche in the Garden of Resurrection.

For more information about the Garden of Resurrection and your family’s pre-planning needs, call the church at 713.622.3600.
